Sandra Rodriguez, PhD., is a creative director (interactive/film) and sociologist of new media technology. Over 16 years, she directs, writes and produces award winning documentary films, broadcasted and exhibited internationally, before pushing creation in the interactive realm. Today, she heads the Creative Reality Lab at EyeSteelFilm, an Emmy awarded company based in Montreal, where she explores the future of non-fiction storytelling. In parallel, Sandra is also aLecturer and Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Open Documentary Lab, where she teaches MIT’s very first course in VR, XR and Immersive Media Productions (in collaboration with Oculus NextGen and the MIT Center for Arts, Science and Technology). Sandra has written a book, articles and papers on public engagement, new media, social change and networked cultures. A frequent speaker on new technology, emerging media and storytelling in a digital age (Cannes, Sundance, IDFA, MIT, RIDM, SXSW_Edu, Radio-Canada), she remains fascinated by playing and creating with the tools through which we share human stories.
