VR in crisis regions - Possibilities, limits, do's and dont's

Short thesis

360° video is no longer strange and exotic in the media cosmos. The podium experts use VR technology in crisis regions of the world to show the situations from a new perspective. Of course, VR is not the cure-all for every situation. In the discussion we want to show what possibilities and limits 360° videos have in perception of foreign places. Almost every month new devices are launched, which technical features make a 360° film particularly immersive and which technology can be recommended for VR newbies?

Description

360° video is no longer strange and exotic in the media cosmos. Today, experience with the new technology has been accumulated worldwide.

The specially VR-experienced panelists report on their experiences with VR cameras in crisis regions. They have been to refugee camps in Syria, Damascus, the poorest regions of Nigeria and Cameroon. They show regions that are in a long crisis and usually do not appear in the Daily News. Places forgotten by the world. They expose themselves to dangerous situations in order to use new VR technology to give other people the opportunity to gain an impression of other, far-away living environments from a distance and to somehow be emotionally involved.

The panel discussion will focus on the experiences with VR equipment in crisis regions and how to combine the latest technology with new rules of storytelling. What was initially a trial and error game with the new technology has since become known dos and don' ts.

360° videos are not the cure-all for every situation. In the discussion we want to show what possibilities and limits 360° videos have in perception of foreign places. Almost every month new devices are launched, which technical features make a 360° film particularly immersive and which technology can be recommended for VR newbies?
