Ten Directions to Move Open Education Forward – CPT+10

Short thesis

The Cape Town Open Education Declaration was published on January 22, 2008, sparking a global call to action that has grown into the vibrant open education movement that exists today. In honor of the ten year anniversary, we took a look back at the last decade and identified ten key directions to move open education forward. We'd love to show you and discuss "Ten Directions to Move Open Education Forward“.

In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Cape Town Open Education Declaration, a group of open education activists met in Cape Town in March 2017 to reflect on progress made by the community over the last ten years, celebrate our accomplishments, understand the challenges, and inspire and focus the movement for the next ten years. The energy and enthusiasm at the meeting inspired the participants and leaders of the community to collaboratively produce a new set of recommendations which highlight ten directions to move open education forward. Here they are:

Communicating Open
Empowering the Next Generation
Connecting with Other Open Movements
Open Education for Development
Open Pedagogy
Thinking Outside the Institution
Data and Analytics
Beyond the Textbook
Opening Up Publicly Funded Resources
Copyright Reform for Education
