newthinking communications GmbH, co-founder of re:publica, is a company that focuses on open source strategies and projects that go between digital technologies and society. It was founded in 2003 and is celebrating its 15-year anniversary this year. We put our main emphasis on event and IT and yearly organize a number of our own conferences, Berlin Buzzwords, Torstraßenfestival and for the first time this year FOSS Backstage. Furthermore, we sometimes work for other exciting projects helping with different parts of organization like droidcon Berlin or Codemotion Berlin.
Berlin Buzzwords is a conference focused on storing, processing, streaming and searching large amounts of digital data. It concentrates open source software projects. Berlin Buzzwords' goal is to provide a platform for developers, analysts and scientists who are involved in large scale computing projects to discuss and exchange new ideas. Topics of interest include everything related to scalable search, data-analysis in the cloud and NoSQL-databases. The 9th edition of Berlin Buzzwords will be held on June 10-12, 2018 at Kulturbrauerei. You can find a list of sessions here and more details on our keynotes Aurélie Polsand Marta Piekarska.
FOSS Backstage is an exciting new conference dedicated to everything related to FOSS governance and open collaboration. The first edition of FOSS Backstage will take place on 13-14 June 2018 at Kulturbrauerei. It will provide a space to discuss a broad spectrum of issues related to community management, vendor neutrality and leading projects without discretionary power. Conference topics will include open source project leadership best practices, community management, open source project metrics, open source strategy for the enterprise, adopting open source collaboration in corporations, legal matters when dealing with open source and many more. See the full list of sessions here and more details on our keynotes Danese Cooper and Shane Coughlan.
Torstraßen Festival will occur on 8-10 June 2018, presenting a diverse program a few steps away from the mainstream. In collaboration with various locations on and around Torstraße in Berlin-Mitte, the four curators Andrea Goetzke, Kevin Halpin, Norman Palm and Melissa Perales are organizing the Torstraßenfestival over the past seven years, representing a wide variety of Berlin music scenes and trends, open to all genres and newcomer musical acts. You can check out the line-up and schedule here.
