Studied music education and musicology. Ran a company for music production in Hamburg and worked as an editor-in-chief for a journal on music education and digital media. After positions at the Universities of Paderborn and Augsburg, he currently is Professor for music education and popular music studies at the Leuphana University of Lueneburg.

His fields of research include digital media, popular music, empirical reseach on music education, creativity and more.
